He sat at home, waiting, had been waiting all day. But, she hadn't come home yet. He sat by the door, waiting for it to open, for it to creek, for anything. None came. She had left early this morning, smiling and happy. She wasn't back yet.
Worried out of his mind, he paced. Back and forth, across the cold tiled floor in the kitchen. Tick. Tock. The seconds seemed to pass to slowly, each click from the clock growing louder and louder with each passing. His friend dozed on the couch, offering no sympathy or advice for his grueling soul. He was a lazy thing, only getting excited when there was a new food involved.
Starring out the window, he prayed she would walk to the apartment buildings front steps. Worried, so worried. Narrowing his eyes, he left the window sill to the bedroom. Maybe she would return faster if he slept.
His dreams were tormented with pictures, figures, and memories. His former girl, with another man, right in front of him. Them giggling, kissing.. Other deeds also. The sleep was a restless one. Climbing back into the bed, he decided that his dreams would be better now that he had gotten that off.
They were. His dreams were no longer nightmares, but remorseful memories. The beauty he had captured this time, always next to him. Smiling at him, playing with his hair, laughing with him. Two weeks ago, she began to distance herself from him. He was scared. He didn't want to loose another one. The happy, joyous dreams that were filled with her face turned into nightmares of what things could of happened to her; or the things she could be doing.
He was awoken by the door opening. He jumped out of bed and ran to the door. The other was still asleep on the couch. She was home. She smiled at him, "Oh, You big lug, Bowie.." She said, seeing the other on the couch, "He was so perfect.." She leaned against the door and slid down, so she was sitting. He narrowed his eyes and looked at her. He knew what this meant. He knew she had someone else, he had to make her stay. She was his.
"Oh, Rocky, I think I'm in love!"
He grinned, purred, and and climbed into her lap as she started to pet him.
Mine he thought
